Testing
Show Works has had Biltflor tested by Acousto-Scan Pty Ltd, ACN 062 949 973.
The testing was conducted in line with the FIBA standards: EN 14808:2005(E) and EN 14809:2005(E)
EN 14808:2005 (E) - Force Reduction
Testing was carried out on a concrete floor inside the Sydney Opera House, the Shock Absorption or Force Reduction was determined using the Berlin Athlete apparatus containing 120 Hz 2 pole Butterworth Filter as specified in the Standard. The peak voltages developed were measured using a Fluke 8024B voltmeter with peak reading facility.
3 readings are taken at each of 3 positions - in the centre of a panel, on a straight edge joint between 2 panels and at a four way joint between four panels. As per the Standard, the first reading was neglected and the second and third averaged.
Results
Averaged Value =52.2%
Max deviation from average% =2
FIBA requirement =40%
EN 14809:2005 (E) - Vertical Deformation
The Vertical Deformation was determined using the Stuttgart athlete apparatus, as specified in the Standard.
Results
Averaged Value =3.7mm
Max deviation from average% =10
FIBA requirement >1.5mm

The type of timber used is 2 x 12mm Ecoply structural plywood made from Pinus radiata veneers bonded with resin adhesive AS/NZS 2269. The floor has a CD grading meaning the face is a solid sanded uncoated surface.
The cushioning between the plywood is an flexible polyester polyurethane foam of a high density and is designed for high load bearing applications. The purpose for this layer is twofold:
It aids in the cushioning and energy absorption of point load bearing and secondly as an anti-drumming medium. Point load of the Biltflor system is 450Kg.
The rubber pads are of special consequence. Scientifically designed and developed, the pads control the impact isolation of the complete floor. This is of special importance to dancers as it controls the movement of the floor in relation to surface stability, shock absorption and energy return.
The EPDM pads have a superior memory. (Meaning, when compressed they return to their original shape.) The rubber is covered in a fabric-impregnated vinyl . This allows the pads to breath rather then create an air pocket. The fabric also protects the rubber from damage when being transported and laid. The rubber pads have a heat resistance threshold of 80 degrees centigrade.
The linking of the panels is a simple and fast procedure as they are self adhesive.
Biltflor is ideally suited to any dance discipline but it must be used in conjunction with a suitable vinyl overlay such as Tarkett. For tap dancing, tempered Masonite or a similar hardboard should be laid directly over the top to protect the dance surface.
Biltflor has a 12 month warranty
